Follow-Up That Leaves a Mark

I received a thank you from Stacey at Chateau Montelena, and it’s one that will always stand out to me. It was simple, handwritten, and personal. She thanked me for visiting, mentioned the book I gave her, and shared that she was looking forward to reading it. But what made it unforgettable was the specific reference to a conversation we had during my visit where I told her I wanted to become a sommelier. She not only remembered, but encouraged me to pursue the classes and even asked me to fill her in on my progress the next time I visit.

She could have sent a generic “Thanks for coming, please visit again” note. She could have sent an email. But instead, she went the extra mile to send a handwritten message that felt personal, meaningful, and took just a few moments of intentionality.

That small gesture didn’t just thank me it made me feel seen, remembered, and valued. It deepened my connection not just to Stacey, but to Chateau Montelena as a whole. That’s the power of intentional follow-up. It’s the difference between a fleeting visit and a lasting impression.

In a world full of automation and mass communication, thoughtful human touches stand out. When you remember a conversation, reflect it back, and take the time to follow up in a way that feels authentic, you create loyalty. You build trust. You spark relationships.

This is one of my guiding principles: expect the unexpected and don’t settle for ordinary. Whether it’s in business or life, meaningful experiences don’t happen by accident, they’re created on purpose, with care.

So here’s your call to action:

Think of someone you interacted with recently - a client, a teammate, a customer, or a friend. What’s one small, personal way you can follow up today that will leave a lasting mark?

The best brands, and the best people, don’t just show up. They follow through.
